Benjamin Graham
Biography
Benjamin Graham is known as the "Father of Value Investing." A scholar and professional investor, he taught at Columbia University and managed the Graham-Newman Corporation. His experiences during the Great Depression shaped his conservative approach to the stock market, focusing on capital preservation and the objective calculation of business value.
Investment Philosophy
Graham introduced two of the most important concepts in finance: "Mr. Market" and "Margin of Safety." He taught that the market is an emotional partner that offers prices every day—sometimes absurdly high and sometimes absurdly low—and that investors should only act when the price is significantly below the "net-net" or intrinsic value of the business.
Current 13F Portfolio Update
Graham favored a diversified list of undervalued stocks, often holding 30 or more companies that met strict quantitative criteria, such as a low P/E ratio and a strong balance sheet with high working capital.
