An order without a price limit that executes immediately at the best available price.
A market order takes the best available offers in the order book until it is filled. Execution is practically guaranteed – the price isn’t. In liquid stocks during regular hours that’s usually fine; in thin markets, at the open or in fast moves, market orders can suffer significant slippage.
