Slippage

The difference between the expected price of a trade and the price actually achieved.

Slippage arises when the price moves between placing and executing an order, or when a large order sweeps through several levels of the order book. The thinner the liquidity and the larger the order, the bigger it gets. Professionals split large orders into many small ones or trade in auctions.
