Ray Dalio
Investment Philosophy
Ray Dalio founded Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, and pioneered the concept of Risk Parity — a systematic approach to portfolio construction that balances risk across asset classes rather than concentrating in equities. His investment philosophy is deeply rooted in understanding macroeconomic cycles, particularly what he calls the “debt cycle” and the “changing world order.”
Dalio believes that most investors fail because they are biased by their own experiences and unable to see repeating historical patterns. His approach is radically systematic: every investment thesis must be translated into algorithms that can be backtested across decades of data.
Bridgewater’s “Pure Alpha” strategy aims to generate returns uncorrelated to any single market, while “All Weather” provides balanced exposure designed to perform in any economic environment. Dalio’s framework for understanding economic machines has influenced central bankers, institutions, and investors worldwide.
