Asset allocation

German: Asset Allocation

How a portfolio is split between asset classes such as stocks, bonds and cash.

Asset allocation determines most of a portfolio’s risk and swings – more than the choice of individual funds. It should reflect your time horizon, ability to bear risk and willingness to bear it. The classic example is the 60/40 portfolio: 60% stocks, 40% bonds.
