Investment Philosophy
Cathie Wood is the founder and CEO of ARK Invest, a firm built entirely around the thesis that disruptive innovation is the most powerful force in markets. Unlike traditional asset managers who anchor to historical data, Wood focuses exclusively on technologies she believes will reshape entire industries: artificial intelligence, robotics, energy storage, DNA sequencing, and blockchain. ARK is unique among institutional investors for its radical transparency — the firm publishes its trades daily, its research openly, and its price targets publicly, inviting scrutiny that most hedge funds avoid.
Wood’s approach is inherently high-conviction and high-volatility. Her flagship fund, ARKK, delivered a 153% return in 2020 before falling over 75% from its peak, making her both one of the most celebrated and most criticized investors of the decade. She maintains that a 5-year time horizon is essential and that short-term drawdowns are the price of investing in exponential growth curves before the market recognizes them.
