The fixed relationship between the prices of a call and a put with the same strike and expiry – call minus put equals stock price minus the present value of the strike.
A long call plus a short put always amounts to buying the stock at the strike at expiry. So the two positions together must cost as much as the stock minus the discounted strike. If market prices deviate, an arbitrage opportunity arises and is exploited immediately.
