A contract giving the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset at a fixed price.
The buyer pays a premium to the seller (writer). A right to buy is a call, a right to sell a put. An option’s price consists of intrinsic and time value and depends mainly on the underlying price, the strike, time to expiration and volatility.
