Concentration risk

German: Klumpenrisiko

The risk arising when a large share of wealth depends on a single investment, sector, region or employer.

Concentration often builds unnoticed: through a single stock that has soared, through employer stock in a retirement plan or through a home and a portfolio tied to the same local economy. Remedies are position caps and broad diversification.
