A bond whose principal and interest payments are tied to the inflation rate.
When consumer prices rise, so does the bond’s principal – and with it the coupon payment. The investor locks in a fixed real yield. In the US these are Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS); the UK issues index-linked gilts. Their prices still move when real interest rates change.
