Currency hedging

German: Währungsabsicherung

Neutralising exchange rate fluctuations, usually with currency forwards.

Hedged fund share classes continuously enter forward contracts so investors receive roughly the return in local currency. Hedging costs or earns about the difference in short-term interest rates between the two currencies. It is most useful for foreign bonds.
