Blockchain

A decentralised, tamper-resistant database that stores transactions in a chain of blocks.

Thousands of computers keep identical copies of the blockchain and confirm new entries under fixed rules. Confirmed transactions are practically impossible to alter. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and platforms like Ethereum, which runs programs called smart contracts, are built on blockchains.
